Building a 1,000-learner STEM network for January 2027

A central teaching hub, local learning centres and alumni-funded infrastructure are designed to operate as one reliable education network.

Alumni Impact starts with a practical question: what happens when the people who once walked through a school’s gates organise their professional and financial capacity around the learners who are there now?

The January 2027 pilot is designed to support 1,000 Grade 10–12 learners across township clusters in Gauteng. Rather than duplicating scarce specialist teachers at every site, the programme centralises master teaching and strengthens local access around it.

One teaching engine, multiple local centres

The central Hub broadcasts CAPS-aligned Mathematics and Physical Sciences lessons live from Johannesburg. Local Spoke centres receive those lessons with interactive displays, resilient connectivity and facilitators who manage attendance, worksheets and learner questions.

Reliable STEM access requires more than a good lesson. Power, connectivity, transport, facilitation and learner support all have to work at the same time.

Why alumni funding changes the model

Recurring alumni contributions are intended to make the system more predictable than short-term fundraising cycles. Sponsorship is associated with a school network, allowing supporters to see where their contribution is working and how their chapter is performing.

Transparency is part of delivery

Active donors are intended to receive access to attendance stability, curriculum coverage, academic deltas, infrastructure uptime and financial reporting through the Alumni Impact dashboard.

From tutoring to a longer STEM pipeline

The programme also connects learners with experienced professionals for career guidance and bursary support. Once local infrastructure costs are recovered, governed surplus can contribute to ring-fenced tertiary bursary pools for qualifying STEM matriculants.
